Blockparty Brooklyn

Blockparty brings the work of 42 designers and 25 artists, all Brooklyn-based, under one domestic roof. The installation includes furniture, textiles, landscape, design objects and Close to Home, a collection of sculpture, painting, video, photography and multimedia, light, and wall installations. It inhabits all of 267A State Street, one of fourteen award-winning twenty-first-century townhouses designed by Kent Anders Architects. These modern townhouses, now under construction in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn, are the first major row of single-family townhouses to be developed in New York City since the 1920s.

Gourmet Collection by Lorena Barrezueta
“My work reflects my constant search for beauty in the ordinary and my interest in various forms of etiquette. Some of the factors that inform my design process are music, contradiction, humor, textures, the handmade, under appreciated details, vintage objects, rituals, and slightly maniacal repetition.”

Mesh Bowl by Elodie Blanchard
“I am not thinking for mass production, or answering a specific need. My work is more a reflection about design.”

Bubble Chandeliers by Lindsey Adelman
“The Bubble Chandeliers are a three-dimensional manifestation of my drawings. An ongoing series of pieces bearing compulsive, repetitive bubble-like markings, my drawings are rooted in horror vacui, or the need to fill the page. I translated these overlapping bubbles into hand-blown glass bubbles that overlap in space and are free to move.”

Tracking: Anatomy by Noriko Ambe
“With these pieces, I map the mysterious land between physical and emotional geography. I want to attain something sublime, entered into by way of precise detail.”

Fuji Toybox by Andrew Thornton & Jenny Argie
“Our interest is to provide children with style and design and to encourage learning and creativity during the formative years.”

Perch Birdfeeder by Amy Adams
“My pieces in blockparty represent abstract and literal ideas on a theme that seems to make people happy--birds. I enjoy the birdfeeder especially because it is very satisfying to see a swarm of birds using my product.”
